Christian Jaccard

Christian Jaccard, who is both Swiss and French, was born in Fontenay-sous-Bois in 1939. After studying printing techniques at the Ecole des beaux-arts in Bourges, he worked as a colorist in a Parisian letterpress shop. His fascination with printing and imprints is palpable in his work. In 1980, we collaborated on the last of his "tool" works, in which he used knotted rope and twine, rather than a paintbrush, to leave marks on the support. Then, we explored combustion in his Litho-brûlages. He would place dynamite fuses covered in litho tusche onto the stones, light them and exploit the traces left behind. We would then rework the stones with reduction printing, usually in five color passes.
